Automation that actually moves work: when to use n8n, Make, and friends

A lot of the value is boring glue: form → CRM → Slack → invoice → calendar. When to start with workflow builders before buying another vertical SaaS that “has AI”.

“AI” isn’t only chat. A lot of the value is boring glue: form → CRM → Slack → invoice → calendar.

Job to be done: connect the tools you already pay for so a human isn’t copy-pasting between tabs.

What “good” looks like

  • Triggers you understand (new lead, new booking, status change)
  • Steps you can see and edit — not a black box “agent” that invents actions
  • Clear failure modes (retry, alert, human review)
  • Cost you can predict (runs / ops, not mystery tokens)

How to pick from a directory

On digitalbydefault.ai open Automation. Start with workflow builders (n8n, Make, Zapier-class) before buying another vertical SaaS that “has AI” but can’t talk to your stack.

Bottom line

If the pain is “we keep doing this by hand,” automation is hotter than another content generator. Wire the path once; measure hours saved.
