About
Pipecat is the open-source (BSD-2) framework from Daily for building real-time voice and multimodal AI agents. It handles the pipeline between transports (WebRTC, WebSockets, telephony, Media over QUIC), voice activity detection, speech-to-text, a language model with tools, and text-to-speech, and is vendor-neutral across providers including Deepgram, Speechmatics, OpenAI, Grok, Gemini Live, AWS Bedrock, ElevenLabs and Cartesia. Version 1.0 shipped in April 2026 and the project has released every two to three weeks since, adding a multi-agent message bus, Pipecat Evals for behavioural testing, Classifiers for in-pipeline checks, and expressive conversation. Run it yourself or on Pipecat Cloud, a managed runtime priced per agent-minute.
